How we can help you
We offer household budgeting advice and can contact your utility providers to make sure payment plans are correct and affordable if you are on a low income. We can also help you to find cheaper alternatives.

In extreme circumstances, we may be able to ask your local council for help towards ongoing rent payments if a rent shortfall is identified. This process includes completing a Discretionary Housing Payment application form, which we can help you to fill in.

When things go wrong unexpectedly, it can have a huge financial impact on the whole household. Our Welfare and Benefit Officers are fully trained in making applications to charities for grants and other support on behalf of our residents.
Please note – some charity application may take up to three months to process due to the charity’s criteria, but we will help you to follow up your application and request.

We can support residents with council tax enquiries and apply for Council Tax Discretionary Housing Payments to clear any arrears.
For this, you will need to provide three months bank statements to your local council for any discretionary payments to be considered. These are not always guarantied as each council looks at each individual case on its own merit and the circumstance surrounding the application. Our Welfare Benefit Service is available to help you apply.

We work with external agencies and can signpost you to non-profit organisations like capuk.org or steptochanges.com to help you work toward becoming debt free.

If you’ve been affected by domestic abuse, help is available.
Through our partnership with Stonewater, we’ve been able to strengthen our approach to tackling domestic abuse, and now have direct links to a network of specialist domestic abuse refuges. These safe spaces provide shelter, practical and emotional support for individuals and families escaping abuse.
For more information, please read our Domestic Abuse Policy.
You can also contact East Surrey Domestic Abuse Services at www.esdas.org.uk
In an emergency, always call 999.
If you need extra support to be able to live safely and comfortably in your home, we can work with your GP and social services to make a referral for ongoing support and adjustments.
If you’re struggling with your mental health, we can make sure the right services are aware, and support where we can in a CMHRS referral.
If you would like to end your tenancy, please email: endmytenancy@stonewater.org
Mutual exchange
If you want or need to move home you can consider a home swap via mutual exchange. A mutual exchange is where you can exchange homes with another Mount Green resident or a resident of yours or another local authority, or other housing association. This provides a great opportunity for you to move to a home of your choice without having to wait for us to offer you a transfer.
Mount Green mutual exchanges are administered by our partner company Stonewater. For further details about our mutual exchange process and eligibility, please visit their website.
Transferring
If you have been given a starter tenancy and are finding you require a different housing need (due to issues such as overcrowding), you could apply for a transfer in addition to looking for a mutual exchange. You must contact your local authority to apply for this transfer.
Please note – Mount Green no longer offer an internal transfer service.
