Standing together against domestic abuse
At Mount Green, we believe that everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home. October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, and we are reaffirming our commitment to supporting survivors and raising awareness of the help that we can provide.
Now that we’re part of the Stonewater Group, we’ve been able to strengthen our approach to tackling domestic abuse. Our Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Policy outlines a clear, survivor-centred response. We aim to:
- Prioritise the safety and well-being of residents and their families.
- Work in partnership with local and national organisations to provide tailored and specialised support.
- Challenge perpetrators’ behaviour while offering robust safeguarding.
- Equip our teams with the knowledge and tools to respond quickly and compassionately.
Access to Stonewater refuges
Through our partnership with Stonewater, we now have direct links to a network of specialist domestic abuse refuges. These safe spaces provide shelter, practical and emotional support for individuals and families escaping abuse.
In August this year, our Housing Services Team welcomed a manager from one of Stonewater’s refuges to share insights into the services available. Inspired by this session, some of our housing officers are due to visit one of Stonewater’s refuges to see first-hand the support survivors receive.
Local partnerships
We also work closely with East Surrey Domestic Abuse Services (ESDAS), who offer advice, safety planning, legal guidance and counselling. Their expertise ensures that when we make referrals, survivors are connected with the most effective support for their situation.
If you, or a friend, family member or neighbour ever needs to access support from us, we will provide safe and confidential spaces for survivors to be referred to the most appropriate support networks quickly.
