Mount Green Hosts Successful Resident Board Event

Recently, we held a very successful resident Board event at our headquarters in Leatherhead. The event was attended by 13 residents, six Board members and a further four members of staff.

Attendees discussed the National Housing Federation’s (NHF) new ‘Together with Tenants’ four step plan and the six point ‘Together with Tenants Charter.’

Sarah McCormack, Customer Services Manager at Mount Green, explains: "NHF's ‘Together with Tenants’ plan was devised following the tragedy at Grenfell Tower in 2017. It outlines four proposed actions intended to strengthen the relationships between residents, tenants and housing associations."

The NHF says it is important that the charter leads to a consistent experience for all tenants and residents so they want housing associations to adopt the commitments.

The six points are deliberately simple to allow housing associations to introduce local variations, which includes specific targets or different language that have been developed and agreed with their tenants and residents.

The tenants, Board and Executive Team set out what Mount Green’s priorities are under the six commitments of the charter and how they can improve services for tenants.

Sarah added, “There were some great conversations about what we do well and how we can improve services. We will be collating the information over the next few weeks and will then consult with all residents before finally revealing our residents charter."

Samantha Herelle, Director of Operations at Mount Green, said, “The event kick started the conversation between our residents and Mount Green’s Board. By using the six commitments of the Together with Tenants framework to guide the discussions, it enabled our Board to better understand what matters to residents. This is an important step for Mount Green in becoming accountable to our residents.”

The next steps for Mount Green are to use the outcomes of the day to seek wider feedback from their residents to develop a Residents Charter.

Samantha also added, "We will be creating a sub-committee of the Board focussed around the issues that matter to residents. This enables our residents to be at the very heart of our governance.”
