Mount Green Housing Association has become the latest organisation to back Housing Today’s ‘A Fair Deal for Housing’ campaign.
The campaign is calling on the government to re-commit to its manifesto pledge of building 300,000 homes a year by the middle of the decade. Through cross-industry collaboration, Housing Today is pledging to work with the sector to come forward with solutions to boost housing delivery and secure ‘A Fair Deal for Housing’.
In response to the campaign, Mount Green’s Chief Executive, Bill Flood, said: “Without further funding or changes to the current planning system, delivering 300,000 new homes a year will always be a tall order.
“Our focus across the sector should be to develop the homes that are needed across all tenures, focusing on approaches that can best address and alleviate the housing needs of our communities to tackle the overarching housing crisis.
“Whilst often harder and longer to deliver, I believe regeneration has a key role to play in providing the homes that are needed most. Areas like Surrey and Sussex where Mount Green operates, are notoriously challenging areas to build new homes due to land use policies and nimbyism.
“Regenerating homes that are no longer fit for purpose – particularly those that don’t meet modern day fire safety and net zero requirements – could enable housing providers and developers to transform and rebuild communities where people will be proud to live, whilst helping to tackle the housing crisis.”
