Director, Marcus Canning speaks to Housing Today

Residents must be active partners in housing services

Housing Today recently spoke with our Director, Marcus Canning, to hear his perspective on the social housing sector and how it connects with residents in meaningful ways.

Marcus emphasised that residents are not just customers. They are partners in shaping the services they depend on. He shared how genuine engagement has transformed the way Mount Green works with its communities.

This summer, we hosted events that brought together over 100 residents, creating space for open dialogue, feedback, and community connection. Alongside face-to-face conversations, we introduced comment walls to give residents a platform to share ideas, concerns, and suggestions.

Mount Green residents have several ways to influence services. These include forums, committees, community events, and direct feedback channels. Each opportunity is designed to ensure every voice is heard and acted upon.

One recent example of resident-led change is the creation of our in-house maintenance team. This initiative was driven by resident priorities and aims to deliver faster, more personalised repairs. Through our Community Improvement Fund, we have also delivered upgrades requested by residents, including new play areas and safer shared spaces.

When residents shape decisions, services become more responsive, trust grows, and communities thrive. Engagement is not a task to complete. It is the foundation of high-quality housing.
