Emergency Alerts, a new UK government service

Emergency Alert

A Government alert is set to automatically sound on mobile devices on April 23rd 2023 at 3pm. This is to test a new system intended to be used in life-threatening situations. The alerts will appear on the home screens of a phone accompanied with a loud warning sound and vibration. This is a test. You do not need to take any action. The scheme will initially focus on the most severe weather-related events. For more information, visit  https://www.gov.uk/alerts

In an actual emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe.

You may get alerts about:

  • severe flooding
  • fires
  • extreme weather

Emergency alerts will only be sent by:

  • the emergency services
  • government departments, agencies and public bodies that deal with emergencies
