At Mount Green, we believe that strong communities start with simple conversations. That’s why we like to host regular events over the summer months in various Mount Green communities to bring people together.
Whether it’s to answer questions, offer support or just enjoy a chat over a cup of tea, these events are about forming connections between Mount Green team members and residents.
The events are also a great way for you to meet the amazing local organisations that we work in partnership with, so that we can provide quality support to you. We’ve got relationships with people from a variety of sectors that offer services such as finance advice and care support.
We asked a few of the partners who’ve joined us at recent events to share what they like about them and why they like to attend.
Helping people feel seen and supported
Sarah Prowse, Giving Coordinator from Age Concern Epsom & Ewell, told us it was lovely to see so many familiar faces at our Mathias House event in July. “It was a pleasure to spend time with residents we’ve helped with Blue Badge and Attendance Allowance forms and to meet new people who may need our help in future,” she said.
She added that events like these are a great way to make sure residents know about the support that’s available, including medical transport, social support and befriending services.
Karen Ordoyno, Senior Home Improvement Agency Officer at Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, also found the event helpful for connecting with residents to inform people about staying safe and independent at home. “We get great satisfaction speaking to people about our services but also love hearing about life at Mathias House,” she said.
Karen and her team shared information about their Disabled Facilities Grants and Handyperson Scheme. She also said that talking face to face helps show that the council is here for everyone, especially those who might not get out into the local community much.
Opening new conversations
Lucy Bahiti, CAP Epsom and Ewell Debt Centre Manager, said the events were a great way to meet residents who may not know about the help that CAP offers.
“Being able to stand up and share what we do meant that people felt comfortable coming over to talk to us,” she said. “And the sandwiches were a bonus too!”
All three organisations said that meeting other service providers on the day was just as valuable as meeting residents. By getting to know each other, they can work together to help more people and offer even better support.
