Collette Clear spent the last two years living in a flat that didn’t meet her needs, but thanks to our new homes at Broadleaf Place, she now has a place she can call home for herself and her little boy.
Collette has lived in Caterham since 2021, having moved from Sussex to be closer to family. Her previous private rental flat was on the third floor of a block, making life very difficult for Collette who struggles with climbing stairs due to Psoriatic Arthritis affecting her mobility.
But now she has found a home that she’s happy and comfortable in, thanks to our new, affordable apartments for local people at Broadleaf Place, developed by Shanly Homes and in partnership with Tandridge District Council.
Having bid on various properties while on the local authority waiting list, Collette was over the moon to get a call saying her application for a brand new two-bedroom flat with Mount Green had been approved. She moved in with her son, Blake, who has just finished his first year of school, at the start of July (2023).
Collette and Blake’s new home may only be five minutes down the road from their previous flat, but it is a world away in how it has changed their lives. Collette says the best thing about the move is that she’s now in a ground floor apartment, so no more stairs to content with.
She adds that it’s also a great size and that their new home has lovely communal gardens right outside their patio doors. The fact that Blake, who has been diagnosed with ADHD, can get outside and play is wonderful for them both, says Collette.
Our eight new homes at Broadleaf Place, part of a larger 42-home development, have all been let to local people, through Tandridge District Council’s housing register. They feature modern and energy-efficient features to reduce residents’ bills and carbon emissions, including insulation, energy efficient light fittings and solar panels.
Collette says: “I’m so happy we’ve got this home with Mount Green. I feel like we can relax now, in a home that’s warm and well looked after, with lower bills, no stairs and a lovely garden. Blake and I couldn’t be happier.”
